🧾 The Mission
Make the sum of all human knowledge freely available to everyone. As a Senior DBA, you’ll help power some of the most visited websites in the world—including Wikipedia—by ensuring the performance, reliability, and resilience of our MariaDB clusters.
💼 What You’ll Do
- Administer and optimize MariaDB/MySQL systems across production and staging environments
- Own replication, schema design, query performance, and observability
- Conduct upgrades, backups, and failover planning
- Collaborate with engineering teams to resolve performance bottlenecks
- Work in a multi-datacenter, bare-metal Linux environment
- Participate in on-call rotation and support incident response
- Contribute to open-source tooling and documentation
🧠 What You Bring
- 5+ years as a hands-on Senior DBA in high-volume environments
- Deep knowledge of MariaDB/MySQL internals and replication topologies
- Solid background in Linux, I/O, bare-metal architecture, and SQL
- Experience with performance tuning, query optimization, and HA toolsets
- Comfortable with remote collaboration and asynchronous workflows
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science (or equivalent experience)
⭐️ Bonus Points For
- Strong automation/scripting skills
- Familiarity with MediaWiki, PHP/HHVM, memcached, or Redis
- Experience with distributed storage (Ceph, Swift, Cassandra, etc.)
- Open source contributions—especially to the Wikimedia ecosystem

Minimal—1–2 times per year for team meetups or events.
