Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu, is hiring a UX Designer focused on design systems. In this role, you’ll help define, evolve, and maintain the company’s design system to support a consistent, accessible, and scalable user experience across its products. This is an opportunity to shape tools used by millions of developers and enterprises worldwide.

• Travel up to 4 times a year for internal team meetups
• Reports to the Design Systems Management team
📋 What You’ll Own
• Build and evolve Canonical’s internal design system (components, tokens, patterns)
• Drive adoption of design system best practices across teams
• Design and document UI components and interaction patterns in Figma
• Ensure accessibility, performance, and scalability in all design system decisions
• Align internal teams on system usage and governance
• Collaborate with engineers to bridge design and code
• Keep up with industry trends and tech advancements
• Document and communicate design decisions clearly and effectively
🎯 Must-Have Traits & Experience
• Proven experience in UX/product design with a focus on design systems
• Strong portfolio showcasing system thinking and documentation of component libraries
• Proficiency with Figma, Storybook, and design token workflows
• Exceptional attention to detail and structured problem-solving approach
• Ability to lead and advocate for accessibility and consistency
• Strong communication skills and comfort working in a distributed team
• Degree in design or related behavioral science discipline
• Based in the EMEA time zone
• Willingness to travel up to 4 times per year
