What You’ll Do

  • Process FMLA and short-term disability paperwork efficiently and accurately
  • Complete FMLA/disability forms using industry-standard responses based on specialty practice type
  • Communicate with patients and physician coordinators about forms in an upbeat, patient-centered manner
  • Handle medical record requests while following HIPAA and HITECH requirements
  • Answer incoming calls, support multiple lines, and track call data in an Excel log
  • Validate and process requests for PHI and verify patient information using key identifiers
  • Ensure disability forms are completed within 5–7 days after payment
  • Pull forms and PHI requests daily for invoicing and load into RMS
  • Maintain professional relationships with account clients and monitor EMR accounts for timely processing
  • Conduct quality screenings on incoming PHI and verify requesting party contact details
  • Update and maintain an Accounting of Disclosure Log for released records
  • Provide attentive support to patients and patient representatives throughout the process

What You Need

  • Experience with FMLA/disability forms (required)
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and medical office processes
  • 1+ year of experience in a medical records department or similar setting
  • Strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills
  • Strong organization, multitasking ability, and attention to detail
  • Typing speed of 50 WPM
  • Ability to use fax, copier, and scanning equipment
  • Ability to learn new equipment and processes quickly
  • Self-motivated team player with strong customer service and communication skills
