The salary range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

Pay Range: $78,800.00 – $130,000.00

About the Role:

The Manager, Alumni Engagement position is responsible for engaging graduates into the WGU alumni community and for connecting graduates to career focused resources and support, including alumni ambassadors, mentoring, employees alumni groups that, help them accomplish their goals and objective s and obtain the opportunities promised by a WGU degree.

The Manager is also responsible for developing and managing a team that continually improves the graduate experience to provide our alumni with the most helpful resources and experiences possible after graduation. This person is responsible for establishing new and managing existing alumni programs, groups, benefits, and learning resources, supporting the colleges, regions, and other university partners, in their alumni efforts, overseeing data gathering and analytics strategy including with Live Alumni, integrated portal engagement, and the alumni survey as well as furthering alumni engagement initiatives, and overseeing the operations and implementation of the University’s integrated alumni strategy.
The Manager, Alumni Engagement is also responsible for alumni customer service, fielding and answering alumni questions and ensuring satisfaction with the community. This position will liaison with the lifecycle team to assure integration and consistency of messaging to alumni and will enforce an alumni governance policy with all university partners. This person will also support and regularly interact with university leadership, including the provost, college and other senior vice presidents, regional and other vice presidents, and directors.

What you’ll do…

  • Strategic cross functional work with executive leaders (Career, Marketing, Regional Operations, College SVPs and VPs as well as Region Vice Presidents).
  • Lead and manage enrollment and participation in the Night Owl Network and other Alumni programs and engagement tools as it pertains to building WGU’s alumni.
  • Responsible for the hiring, training, and development of employees to focus on the Alumni Engagement
  • Manage new graduate engagement process, programs, and data analytics, ensuring new graduates are visiting and using the alumni website, and are aware of alumni benefits and learning resources available. Responsible for offering continued support and customer service to escalated situations with alumni when they have questions or concerns.
  • This individual will train other team members in customer service in alumni relations actions and best practices.
  • Build, launch manage and bolster all alumni communities including Alumni Ambassadors, Award recipients, Employer hubs , regional chapters, regional councils, and mentoring programs. Special emphasis on connecting ambassadors with partner opportunities including Regions, Colleges, WGU Labs, Advancement, Marketing, Public Relations, and more.
  • Work closely with data, IR college, and Marketing teams, to ensure updated alumni information is captured, including employment data from third-party data partners, and that Alumni use and integrated systems for data capture. Oversees and enforce university alumni governance policy, regularly reviewing the following for email and other communication: cadence, asks versus gives, and appropriateness of communication. This role is critical in helping protect alumni data and providing a positive alumni experience.
  • Assist with special projects and various needs to support the overall mission of WGU’s career -focused Alumni model.
  • Develop communities working with the Regional and Strategic Partnership teams to leverage alumni relationships and feedback, while increasing alumni engagement opportunities on a national, state and local level.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Manage contracts, budgets, messaging, and policy around Alumni learning tools and other benefits.
  • Oversee the mentoring program as part of the B4 Women in Tech grant and use outcomes from this program to build other mentoring resources for the integrated Alumni strategy.
  • Foster support from all outreach, career, and regional operations and support for best practices in how to implement the integrated alumni strategy.

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of SRM/CRMs and other data platforms.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with the networking application.
  • Ability to manage a team.
  • Project management
  • Program development – designing systems, communications, workflow needed to launch and run a program.
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience training teams on processes and programs.
  • Experience working in a strategic position, cross-functionally, across the university.

  • The ability to be a subject matter expert on Alumni programs, outcomes, and recommendations to provide thought leadership in the field.

  • Experience developing programs that will affect students and employees.
  • Travel to and participation in alumni and commencement events required.
  • Review Data and build recommendations for success.

What you’ll need…

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5-7 years’ experience managing customer service programs or departments
  • At least 4 years’ experience managing marketing, academic, or communications projects
  • At least 5 years’ Experience working closely with/leading cross-departmental project teams
  • Willing to travel

Nice to have…

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, marketing, or communications preferred
  • Marketing or communications projects within a higher education community
  • 5 years of experience as a people leader.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
