What you’ll do…

JOB SUMMARY –

The Expat Tax Manager position oversees and facilitates high quality U.S. tax preparation, planning and audit representation services to U.S. expatriate clients through a virtual platform. Working with a team of Expat Tax Preparers, through coaching and the use of effective people practices, this role ensures that the associates deliver an experience and results that meets/exceeds the client expectations while at the same time drives the organization towards meeting annual revenue targets for the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES –

  • Manages a book of business for U.S. expatriate clients in devoted countries, including delinquent filers, business owners, and high-net worth individuals.
  • Conduct new client interviews and analyze international tax issues for the purpose of preparing complete and accurate tax returns for U.S. taxpayer clients located in a select country or grouping of countries. Follow internal guidelines for review and referral of tax returns. Take initiative to seek new clients by asking current clients for referrals; actively develop and execute client acquisition plans.
  • Participate in hiring decision-making for non-signing tax preparers in devoted work group and manage team towards quarterly productivity and efficiency targets. Review and provide feedback on work completed by team and conduct meaningful performance evaluations.
  • Manage overall tax preparation workflow to ensure timelines are met and the highest degree of customer service is provided
  • Work with regional leadership to research and analyze tax positions relevant to dedicated countries
  • When necessary, prepare tax returns for new clients and clients with complex tax issues. Provide functional tax research support with respect to complex issues encountered by team of non-signing tax preparers in devoted work group
  • Attend robust paid training at the outset of the assignment and participate in ongoing continuing education offered by the company. Develop a working knowledge of foreign tax and financial systems in devoted country/countries in order to enhance client experience.
  • Assist in transitioning acquired clients to H&R Block Expat Tax Services brand. Develop or leverage prior global experience, education, or insights to build rapport and provide a well-rounded service to clients in devoted country/countries.
  • Handle IRS audit engagements for clients in dedicated region
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS –

Minimum Requirements

  • CPA, EA, or JD
  • B.S. or B.A. in Accounting, Business Administration, or related degree
  • Three years of experience in tax
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate tax and financial advice clearly and effectively with the public in a variety of situations including but not limited to phone, email and videoconference calls with expat clients.
  • Demonstrated effective people/leadership skills with a sincere desire to help others achieve success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in client service or customer relationship management
  • Prior experience preparing taxes for U.S. expatriates.

What you’ll bring to the team…

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.

Work Experience:

  • 5 years Minimum related work experience
  • Ability to communicate tax and financial advice clearly and effectively with the public in a variety of situations including but not limited to public speaking engagements.
  • Two years experience in tax.
  • Circular 230 credentials (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney) or willing to obtain within one year of employment.
